DW, Good Dog, and I took the Hawk up to Lassen. Stopped at Wilson Lake for a night. Dog and I got up to answer natures call at 4AM and as we stood there in the dark....semi-dark cause of stars etc. the geese flew over our head just a few feet. The lake got VERY noisy at night because of all the geese that flew in for the evening.
Good Dog and I were pleased to watch them take off in small flights of 5- 8 throughout the early morning hours.
Those geese sure have a lot to talk about.

no one else was there with the exception of a ranger gal.....who was fresh out of fire permits.
by the way, in the first shot of DW and GD those red stakes are warning signs to try to get the stupid fool ATV jerks from attempting to cross the meadow. they do a tremendous amount of damage. reminds me of jet-skiers....

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the reports and photos. How disappointing to find all the noise and damage from some low lives. Wilson Lake sounds more like our type of place. I'll haver to check it out.

We also just returned from Lassen area. You may be interested in a lake we visited. Crater Lake is just off HWY 44 in Lassen NF. the road in is a wash boarded seven miles. There are 17 sites for tents only, though we were told our rig was fine. More importantly, there were no trailers and we heard no generators. We watched a pair of osprey flying around and a Bald Eagle took a fish about 150' from us. Fishing was decent also.

Though the beach at Doran Park is nice, there usually are loud groups there. When we head to Bodega for a coastal fix, it is usually to Westside Park now. Granted it is not much more than a parking lot, but it does seem to be quieter. It is right on the water so you can bird watch and boat watch, hit Spud point for fresh crab, or go to Bodega Head to whale watch.

By the way, I also made a middle-of-the-night trip outside the camper in Lassen this weekend. You are right, the stars were spectacular.

As a matter of fact, I did take some photos. I don't have a wide angle, so there are two photos. Try to put them together in your head. Not sure you can see it, but about center of the left photo is a white kayak out on the lake. Gives you some perspective of size. Photos are taken from one of the sites on the lake.

I'm new to this fishing thing, having only bought my first license a month ago. I know it was a trout but other than that it seemed rather skinny to me. A coworker says it was probably a brown. There were a lot of people fishing on Hat Creek near the intersection of HWY 89 and 44. Saw one guy with a very large trout (20"?). There are several decent campgrounds in that vicinity.

I have been to Wright's Beach but never overnighted there. The lower sites by the beach seem crowded together to me. I'll actually be at Van Damme weekend of the 21st. I take my 88 year old father camping now and then and this is where he said he wants to go next.
