Steens, Alvord are both great, really enjoyed my trip that way. Dog friendly? Is there any other way?

Ya, Bob has a few rather bad memories about Donner and Blitzen Creek in the Steens and was the subject of a threads I posted here about 6 years ago-complete with pictures of him and his swelled up head!. Yep, he got bit on the head by a rattler while defending our camp about eight years ago. Tried to pull it up the old thread, but I got lost in the files here-will try to find later.Just happened to have a ER Dr. camped down from me- interesting dialog here over treating snake bite dogs, herbal meds and holistic medicine. Bob was even the star of an article in a medical journal; These days, Bob does not like snakes and seems to know if there is a snake within a 100 yards of camp! All that country is pretty neat and was planning to make a early run up to the Pine Forest range this Spring (depending on the mud) and all that country -the Steens,,Alvord Desert, the Sheldon and Devils Garden on the Modoc NF are all in striking distance so count me and Bob in-may even let Bob tell his story! .

The first post said anyone was welcome, but I changed the title to add that. Any and all are welcome, even someone I know who has sold their ATC and gone another route .Would be nice if you would change the thread title to WTW Get Together from ATC Get Together.
The more I think about timing, the more I am inclined to push things towards the end of July. Considering our snow year, the Steens Loop Road may not be open until perhaps the beginning of August. That will also allow the mosquito population to thin out and let the streams come down to fishable levels. I'm still thinking that Virgin Valley CG in the Charles Shelden Refuge would be a good place. There's a lot to see in the area, plus remote camps like Gooch and Badger for anyone that wants to get out a ways. Kinney Camp has wonderful old buildings from the late 1800s - early 1900s. The opal mines are interesting as well.
As I implied in the original post, planning is going to be ad hoc and highly unorganized, but it is a chance for us to get together and meet one another.
