I do plan to put in 2 electric ceiling fans to help combat the condensation in the winter. I like the idea of the 18oz being more pliable. That might make a big difference from this material not cracking in extreme cold even though its rated down to -40. Honestly if its -10 or colder, I'll stay home and do house projects ha ha. I don't want to ski that cold in my older age anyway. Plus I'll likely make a arctic pack myself that will help combat the cold. I already have a diesel heater I bought for my other camper but I got the furnace working so its brand new in the box. That will be my heating source in the FWC.

About the height. My plan as of now (this changes daily) is to keep the soft sides the same height and to create more head room I'm going to rebuild the floor pack 6" deeper. For a couple reasons. More hard side and less soft side will be better in the cold and if I keep it the same height I can maybe template and rebuild the old lift panels. I might also go the EMT route so the fabric height might be adjusted. Also I feel less pop up will more stable in a blizzard with high winds.

I'll likely start a new thread on my project today. It will make it easier for me to keep the ideas in one location. I feel I have enough ideas now to start asking educated questions ha ha. I've been on this site day and night since Sunday.

Thanks for all your help

Wonderful! I like the idea of redoing the floor pack for the reasons you mention.

I look forward to seeing your build page and the progress it shows.

Yes this site really is quite neat! An example of the internet bringing folks together for good! Lots of great nuggets of information on here. CHeck out PokyBro build as well, he and I traded a lot of ideas while we were working on ours around the same time.

Best - TIm

I like the floor pack idea too.  It's a bit more work but if you are tearing it down that far it's probably a better solution for all the reasons you stated!

I agree, The floor pack and new siding are the only two things I did not really fix or replace in mind, and in hindsight I wish I did both. In for an inch, in for a mile.

A couple things to consider:

  1. It would be awesome to be able to sit up in the bed without hitting the ceiling.  Changing the tent siding and lift panels make that possible.
  2. Making the floor pack deeper raises you center of gravity and the cabover will catch more wind ->worse gas mileage (assuming the camper isn't already on a platform which would do that anyway)
  3. You can fill in a platform with insulation to keep the floor a bit warmer in the winter too.

Good Luck!

+1 on his point about the bed. It is very nice to be able to sit up fully in bed, I think you do not realize how nice it is till you have it.
