I have a 2017 Tundra and used the camera source license plate cam. It plugs right into the factory connectors. I just switch between the two whether my tailgate is on or off. I added the angle aluminum piece to protect it a little...

On an earlier posting someone suggested picking one up at a junk yard. If you're in the neighborhood, Alamagordo, New Mexico has an awesome one. Straight out of a Mad Max movie.

Clever idea if it works out for you.

Yes! My Ford dealer was half the price of a camera only replacement.

Yes it is but it is a complete solution with wiring and connectors that are an exact match to the factory wiring.  And even at the Camera Source price it is less than half the price of the Toyota OEM camera.  I did extensive research on options for the late model Tundras and didn't find another good solution to fit the factory harness and stock head unit.

I wanted to be able to switch back to the factory camera in the tailgate when the camper is off the truck.
