I'm about to tackle the Pirelli's.  Any pointers?

  The outside seals are held in place with a strip that has a vinyl or other plastic seal or cap. Any secret to removing or re-inserting this strip?  What size screws do I need before starting?

 Any help would be appreciated. -Bill-

 Bill...I'm going to do the same job on my '76 Alaskan but there are no vinyl strips....I would suggest you post the YEAR of your camper and someone with one like it can probably offer some insight on the task. If you know which of the shops built yours, post that as well as the construction details did vary from the original mfger to the various licensees out there.

Here is an example of what I'm talking about.  It is a metal channel that has a vinyl or other plastic insert that conceals the screws. I have no idea how resilient it is. If anyone has dealt with this stuff I would appreciate hearing about it. I don't want this to be another 20 year old plastic part that breaks as soon as I touch it.

CB...the "Oldies" used a flat, metal section, at least my '76 has that on the top curved trim section. 

 

I've had my Alaskan/truck tarped during the rainy weather and now un-tarped so any moisture can be dried up since we are having a week or so of 75F to 85F temps, then I am doing the same thing...Pirelli seals!

 

Maybe its time for a call to Bryan at Alaskan for some advice on your questions....I'm sure they get in campers of your vintage that need the same Pirelli replacements and have experience to share.

I've done this job on my 96 10'CO.
The vinyl insert just pulls out and is easy to install if left in the sun for a bit to warm up.
Mine has a few sections of cracking but was resuable.

Hey Crazybill, any feedback on changing your Pirelli seals? I have the same setup as your picture a 2002 model, I don't see any screws anywhere, do I just cut the silicone screw and peel back???

That plastic stuff that hides the screw heads is on old-time solution to hiding the screws. If you have a boat/RV/camper parts and supplies vendor nearby, show them the pic and they probably stock it on a roll. Measure the width of the "Jaws" and on and end view, how wide the insert should be. If it is cracked and falling out, bring a piece with you. Measure how much total length you will need as well. If it is cracked, dirty, or otherwise over-the-hill, why NOT replace it, it's CHEAP.
