So I've been a ground camper for years and pretty quickly realized that a full length rain fly is the only way to go when it is raining. I'm looking at getting into these rooftop tents (RTT) and have noticed that most do NOT have full length flys (or is it flies).

Anyway, can you stay dry in an RTT, that is fully loaded (meaning max capacity people and gear) in a downpour? Do you end up in the old canvas tent situation where everything touching the walls is wet in the morning?

Welcome to WTW.

I wouldn't necessarily categorize popup campers in the same class as RTT's. They are much more than a RTT. I had a Flippac and those required LARGE rainfly's. There is also the new wedge/wedgefalia type of shells that companies like Vagabond and GFC are making.

We recently bought a Roofnest RTT that has a hard shell that pops straight up.
Our older son (31 yo and 6 ft tall) and his wife recently joined us on our trip through the Colorado mountains and said they slept very well.
This included one night where it was pouring cold rain and they stayed dry.
