Looks like we will all get an early start on winter camping. I hope the weather is colder...More winter desert like.

Ocotillo Wells SVRA has changed it up with place they call the “Main Street Event Center”. This location allows us to camp together with some basic accommodations. Some of the Main Street Event Center amenities include …
• Cement picnic tables with large shade Ramadas
• Central fire pit for a bonfire
• One large and two smaller barbecues with serving tables
• Night lighting and electrical outlets
• Hot showers, restrooms, and dish washing sink
• Perimeter fencing with lockable gates
• Room to park 100 - 115 campers (open, dispersed camping)

The weekend events:

Four Wheel Campers has reserved The Main Street Event Center for the weekend.

If you want a FWC Rally T-shirt, please let us know your shirt sizes when you sign up for the event. We will bring extra shirts to the rally, just in case.

Four Wheel Campers will provide dinner on Friday night, a continental breakfast on Saturday morning, another dinner on Saturday evening, and a light continental breakfast Sunday morning with the leftover breakfast food. Customers are on their own for lunches.

• Note: If you have special food needs, please bring your own special food or snacks. We will have a griddle and BBQ if you would like to use them to cook your favorite dish. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to accommodate everyone’s food needs.

Potluck Desserts: Feel free to bring your favorite dessert to share on Friday, Saturday night, or for both nights.

Items you might want to consider bringing for the weekend:
Bring your own chairs
Sunscreen
Hats
Drinking Water
Ear Plugs (it got a little loud last year late Friday evening off in the distance with dune buggies. Sat. night wasn’t as bad. We think this was mostly due to the holiday weekend. But that said, there will be some nose and ear plugs will be a good idea for light sleepers).

Basic weekend itinerary and “Check In”:

Friday Dec. 6th:

Check in with FWC volunteer owner-Ambassador – RC Pilot Jim at the Registration table and let him know you have arrived. Sign in and pick up your T-shirt. Then pick a place to camp and set up for the weekend. There is plenty of room to camp the around the Main Street facility. First Come, First Served for Campsites.

4pm – 5pm Cocktails
5pm – 7pm Dinner
7pm to when-ever, we will have a fire in the pit if weather allows

Saturday Dec. 7th:

We will have a continental breakfast on Saturday morning with snacks and drinks.

During the day on Saturday, we will try and organize a camper walk-through and maybe a trail ride for customers interested in exploring the park in their truck & camper.

4pm – 5pm Cocktails
5pm – 7pm Dinner
7pm to when-ever, we will have a fire in the pit if weather allows.

Sunday Dec. 8th:

We will have a continental breakfast on Saturday morning and put out all of the left-over food, snacks, and drinks we have.

Most people wake up, grab a snack & cup of coffee, pack up, and we all roll out around 11:00am. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!!

Directions to get there:

First the map of the General area: http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=1219

Coming from the north… Interstate 15 has less weekend traffic than I-5. Highway 76 from I-15 east, is a two-lane narrow, twisty road that goes by at least one casino. I advise avoiding that road after 10 pm because of the drunks. (There has been several head-on collisions in that area). Highway 78 is wider, goes through Escondido and two small towns (Ramona and Santa Isabel) with slower speeds.

If you are towing an off-road toy or trailer:
When you review the map, you will note that highway 78 runs up a mountain through 1875 gold rush town of Julian. If your pulling a trailer or flat towing a vehicle you will want to turn left at “Santa Isabel” onto Highway 79 and bypass Julian and the very narrow, steep, "Banner pass grade road" (down the mountain).

Santa Isabel features a grocery store, restaurant and famous pie shop. Pick up a pie or two for the pot luck - yummmmm!

Proceed about 8 miles or so on Highway 79 toward Warner Springs and Temecula. Turn right on “San Felipe Road (“S2”) towards “Borrego Springs”. Just before the turn-off is a "electrical transfer station" on your right, which makes “S2” easier to find at night.

DON’T take the Borrego Springs turn to the left (about 3 miles south of the intersection)…Stay on “S2”. This is a wide fairly straight road with gentle curves that is excellent for vehicles pulling trailers. After about 16 miles, “S2” intersects with Highway 78. (Scissors Crossing). Turn left East). Proceed 20 miles to “Ocotillo SVRA Discovery Center” which will be on your left.

Time from Santa Isabel cross-roads to Scissors crossing - 30 minutes

The “Main Street Event Facility” is one mile east of the Discovery Center also on Highway 78. Turn left on Main Street. The “Event facility” is about 500 yards on your left. Look for the “Four Wheel Camper Banner”.
