I recently ran onto a webinar posted last summer where Garmin senior product manager Chip Noble discusses best practices for Inreach users.  It opened my eyes to a few things-- like:

1- why you should conduct a 'subscription test' (12:23)

2- why you should turn your Inreach on at the trailhead (16:56)

3- why it's important to keep the Inreach vertical (21:10)

4- the shape of the antenna signal (an umbrella or mushroom shape radiating out from the top of the antenna) (23:07)

5 - the fact that the Inreach turns on tracking during an SOS emergency (it sends tracking messages every 60 seconds for 10 minutes, then every ten minutes) (27:06)

6 - why you should send a message after the activity is complete and not just shut the Inreach off (27:33)

Thanks, Chip!
