After having a FWC and Northstar camper over the years

we went through a few different rigs,Tiger 4x4 motorhome

ford van with a pop top, small mini van conversion, full size

ford transit conversion, another small van conversion.

 

Well we missed the pop up setting on a Toyota so we now have

a 2020 toyota tacoma access cab 4x4 with a Northstar 600ss

pop up.

 

you ask why a Northstar and not a FWC?

 

Answer: bed we just never could adjust to the bed in the FWC

Northstar has full size bed that stays made when top is down

makes life so much simpler.

 

Yes the FWC is smaller and lighter, but we found that we could go almost anywhere

we could in the FWC exceptions being narrow tree lined or brush lined trail/roads.

 

Since we do not do extreme trails anymore (remember me writing about following

the Baja 1000 course a long time ago and breaking the frame on our first Tacoma).

 

Also age and the fact that we travel alone has us being more aware as to how far we explore off the normal backroads

 

so the draw backs to a larger heaver rig do not factor in.

All in all we are enjoying the new set up.

Les a lot of good thoughts.

 

As we all age and still want to travel

we need to make choices.

 

As you ,for us the need to have a rig to get us

into the far and beyond isn't need now.

 

Our ATC is still our go to rig.Don't want anything any bigger.

Our rig gets us to where we want to camp.

 

Everyone has different needs/wants.

Good to see you back.  Totally agree on the bed, hence my new build with the bed always staying made... no more sliders!  But then, we are both only 5'8" and can sleep east/west.

We only had the Proven tiger for about 8 months found out i had a dose of the big"C" and knew we would not be using it much so let it go to a new home.

Things then went well and we were back, explains the other rigs.

Les welcome back and keeping us in the loop.  You have to try different stuff and settle on what works for you at the moment.

Picked up camper last Thursday and have been going through it

and "adjusting needed".

We will be leaving tues. or wens. heading to the back side of Borrego.

Will take pictures, but have always had a problem on wtw posting pictures

tried it on my post but was told image was to big, do not have this problem on any other forums i have posted on.

Will try and figure out.

Les, if you host on another forum (like Flickr), it works nicely, regardless of size.
