I was just planning on using our household iron, but ski reminds me I have a wax iron, which should work with the added and most important benefit being that I won’t foul up the wife’s iron. So thanks again!

You can buy birch iron-on wood veneer tape at Lowe's or Home depot. It matches the FWC fake wood-grain surfaces pretty well. I've applied a lot of it using a regualr household iron. I protect the face of the iron with aluminum foil. After the veneer cools, trim the excess width with a sharp chisel, held flat on the panel face.
