Hi! I have found the camper of my dreams, and I have the perfect truck for it. But. I have no idea how to get it home. 

I have a 2015 Chevy 2500 HD and am purchasing a 2018 Hawk that has been on a Ram. Anyone have experience with a short-term installation solution for this?

I got an appointment for an install at FWC but it's not til the 9th. The guy I'm buying from needs it  gone by then. 

Thanks in advance if you can help! Sorry if there is a thread for this already, I tried a handful of install searchers and came up empty.

See if you can borrow/rent a 5x8 utility trailer with adequate payload. It needs to have either no rails or low rails. You should be able to use the standard turnbuckles or heavy duty ratchet straps to secure it.

I used 5 ratchet straps to take my Grandby home (50 miles of freeway).  Just take it easy and check often.

 - 4 from jack brackets, wrapped under body to hook to frame.

 - 1 wrapped around back of camper to keep it from sliding out.  I just used the in box tie down loops.

 

Just make sure that the ratchets cannot hit the body of truck or camper.  I ductaped towels around mine.

I used car tie downs through the access holes in the camper to the factory tie down loops on the bed. Only hauled it 800mi that way....no sweat

You’ll also need the put some 1” runners under the camper. Your truck has rounded tailgate corners.

Most people will strap the camper down from the jack brackets to the rear bumper and under the front to the truck frame.

Ratchet straps do work. That's what we used to get our Hawk home after buying it used about 200 miles away.  We hooked into the holes for the ratchet legs and ran the straps down to the frame.  It's not ideal, but we got it home safely with no problems.
