So is West Pass in the vicinity of Round Lake/ Sisters?

But I question the "highest" route claim. Emigrant Pass (Emigrant  Wilderness) was crossed by the Clark-Skidmore party in 1852 and I believe the elevation of that pass is at least 9600.

I love the quotes on those signs; "We laid down after frying meat on sticks and making tea."

Teledork, I believe you mean Round Top Lake under the Sisters. West Pass is the saddle between Covered Wagon Peak and Melissa Coray Peak above chair 4 at Kirkwood. Puts it just to the west of the Sisters and Fourth of July Peak. All this is a fun ski from Carson Pass to another vehicle left near the dam on Caples Lake.

Good question about the highest claim. Something for me to look into! :)

The quotes are great and it's wonderful there are no corrections of spelling or word usage. I have a friend who loves to read old journals and diaries from the overland trails.

Thanks for the comment! :)

A nice walk through history.  Always enjoyable...

Thanks for letting us tag along!

Yes, and most did walk. The wagons were for carrying everything needed. Thanks Mr. Sage for the kind comment! :)

Thanks for sharing your backcountry experience. It generates a happy feeling just looking at your photos. It is good to know only a bit of work is required to get away from the maddening crowds! We have frequently observed that you can leave most people behind if you are willing to get 30 minutes away, by vehicle or foot, from the more popular places.

We are glad you enjoyed it! How lucky we are we can still find a bit of solitude. Staying fit and healthy sure works to our advantage. :)

All, thanks for the nice comments. We both appreciate them. :)

Thanks for the mini trip report

Great read...thanks. The Desert Trip Crew was skunked on the Emigrant Trail two years ago due to wet conditions. Exploring the trail network is high on my list.

Thanks Ski.Great to see you got out for a short trip.

Nice find, Craig! We'll take on the Grizzly Flat route after the Johnson Cutoff and the Sonora Route. :) Or, when we need something to do close by!

I didn't know about the 49er tree. Very sad story. I seem to find more markers when I'm "not" looking for them. Found this one recently.

Yes - I did mean Round Top Lake - I think Round Lake is in the Meiss Meadow area.

And yup - did the ski tour from Carson Pass to Kirkwood (and scribbled on the slopes betwixt and between) more than a couple of times.

I've found several of those signs around here - Fremont and his lost cannon and all. The spelling is fun.
