Wanting to avoid the fireworks insanity in Sacramento I took the dog up the hill for the 4th. Originally I'd thought about a bigger trip, seeing the fireworks at Lake Crowley (from a good distance) then crossing over and heading back up the West side of the Sierra's but with the new restrictions I figured it would be better to stay close to home.

Camped off the Silver Fork road near the Mormon Emigrant Trail. I got really lucky and not a soul was camped in this area. Nice and quiet. We walked the roads and Riley got to chase another deer (he gives up quickly) and maybe even a Mountain Lion. I heard a growl and Riley chased something.

Pardon the shaky camera work.

In between walks I listened to the Forest Service dispatch channel on the ham radio. Busiest I've ever heard it. Lots of illegal campfires and fireworks despite the nice work they did with extra signage on the roads. Being the 4th of course the hard core idiots were also out. Two FS vehicles near the Loon Lake dam had their tires slashed. A bit later they reported it was caught on camera (dash cam presumably) and the perpetrators wanted to fight. Not smart. Eldorado sheriff was already on the way to take a report. I can imagine that got every LEO for thirty miles to descend on them. We went for another walk and when I got back they were giving free lodging to at least one of the idiots. Nothing like getting local and federal charges.

Other than someone setting off a few fireworks at the MET turnout (guessing) it was a nice quiet night. My brother tells me it was the worst he's ever heard it here in Sac.

That’s very thoughtful of you to think of your dog. Here the annual fireworks show was cancelled. The residents more than made up for it. Thanks for sharing.

Here in the Monterey area, the county is a no fireworks area.

But for over 3 hours of the 4th it was like a firefight all around the North County area.

Although not many dogs seemed to be barking.

And no fires. We lucked out I guess.

Craig, nice little responsible trip for you and the pup! With all the craziness going on a little trip is just what the Dr. ordered.

Happy fourth Craig! I'm surprised that site was empty also. It still amazes the craziness displayed my some of our Forest visitors. Every time you think you've seen it all.............................

Nice short getaway, thanks for sharing with us.
