July 16, 2020 is World Snake Day!

Take a snake to lunch or dinner -- I think they prefer small rodents.

I found this specimen ("gopher snake") in my washing machine (back in 2009) after doing a load of laundry -- and he/she was still alive! :o

Not sure what the backstory was. Maybe got in the house (somehow) then crawled into the laundry basket for warmth/shelter among the clothes...then got dumped in the washer when I dumped in the clothes..?

Very cool, Mark, can't believe it didn't give up the ghost from fear, water, claustrophobia, etc., you name it.  To further honor my fave herps, here's a pic of the 10-rattled beast I scared up on a mtn-bike ride this morning, it's a common encounter in my neck of the woods this time of year.

Here's a pink grand canyon rattler from Lava Falls on the Colorado. Great camouflage for the red rock.

Very cool snake stories.

I didn't know there was such a thing as World Snake Day.

Just read the story about WSD.

For a lot of years we had a pet Corn Snake.

When Shar taught kindergarten at Easter time she would hatch chicks.

A friend who raised snaked needed a better way to keep the eggs warm.

So he borrowed our incubator and used it for his Corn Snake eggs.

For use he gave us a baby Corn Snake.About half the size of a pencil.

The Corn Snake is one of the oldest snakes to be used as pets.

In colonial times they were very popular.

It was fun to watch the kids in her class as she would feed it live mice.

When we couldn't get live we bought frozen ones at the pet store.

Sorta like "micecicles".

They live a long time.A great teaching tool for kids.
