Wow thanks for that great trip.
That's a beautiful part of Id.
Doesn't look like the trip was overrun with people.
Must have made it very nice to not have a huge amount of people.
What a treat to get to walk around the dredge.

What a great trip. That pot for burning off the mercury is so tiny relative to the amount of material moved to get the gold!

Hi Hodakaguy,
I noticed that those IR Diesels have 7 cylinders, which is odd in several ways. Can you tell if one cylinder was just an air compressor? I know that some of the old industrial engines were started with compressed air.
It was said that every one that worked on these dredges was compleatly deaf from the rock crusher.
I need to do that Custer route next time. That would beat the pavement.

Continued from above...
Resistor banks used as speed controls for the motors
Thats it...just a little further :-)
Upper axle on the bucket line
Grizzly bars to reject large rocks before they get to the trommel.
Bull gear that drives the bucket line. This is the weakest spot on the dredge, the large bull gear was replaced 3 times while this dredge was in operation.
Trommel from above
Checking out the sluice runs
Gold recovery area, the pot on the lower right was used to burn off the mercury and recover the gold.
The dredge made its own power via two 1940 Ingersol Rand Diesel engines running two generators.
Got the drone back out for a few shots of the dredge
Great shot of the tailings left behind from the dredge
Wife got in a little panning while we were there...didn't get anything but more cool rocks to pack in the van :-)
we did the same route a few years back love that area!! Your pics bring back fond memories .
a trip you wlll forever remember!
