So we're looking to get out of Durango for a few days. (We're open to anything within a two hour drive of home.)We've driven Hwy. 64 between Tierra Amarilla and Tres Piedras in northern NM many times.

So we thought next week we'd like to explore north of 64 in Carson NF and on up to Cumbres Pass into Rio Grande NF. (4 days of early leaf peeping.)

We want to stay on the FS back roads with isolated dispersed camping. (Mild to medium 4WD is OK.) Any thoughts on roads to take or campsites to enjoy?

I posted this over on the FWC FB group and some suggested 87 and 87A. Any thoughts on FS road 133 north from Hwy 64 to 87? Current condition? Worthwhile?

We're going to pull the Rubicon and hope to base camp for a couple of days and do some exploring. Thanks in advance for any suggestions! Steve

You might PM Basque Bill. He has done extensive camping

in some of the areas you need info for.

Have a great time.

Thanks, Frank! I did PM Bill and he had some very targeted and valuable ideas.

Questions for anyone here. We've kind of morphed into going south from Cumbres Pass on FR 87 down to HWY 64. Anyone have any thoughts on this stretch of road and/or good dispersed camping areas?

Thanks!

Steve
