Recent trip into Nevada primarily south of Hwy 50 to Great Basin. I'd been to GBNP several times in early spring but the road to Wheeler Peak was always closed due to snow. The fall colors were just about at their peak. This trip included exploring the area between Gabbs Valley and Big Smoky Valley. In GBNP we camped at the top of Snake Creek Cyn. The last time I was there was in the late 80's and there weren't any camp sites or pit toilets. All of the developed campgrounds were full and there were several cars parked at the trailheads going up to Wheeler Peak.

It was great getting out of the smoke and recent heat wave back home. Temps were generally in the low 70s down to mid 30's at night.

Meant to post more pics this morning but had to take off and do some emergency plumbing for mom-in-law. Here's a couple more.

GBNP is a completely underrated place. Stopped by for a day and have been wanting to go back ever since.

Thanks Frank!! There were 3 Tacoma/Eagles camped near us at Baker Creek. Shared a glass of wine with one of the owners and her dog. Also tried to assist a fellow wanderer on the side of Hwy 50 halfway between Ely and Austin as we were heading out to Spencer Hot Sps. He was off the shoulder at a bad angle and we couldn't jack his F350/Hawk to change the flat. We drove about 50 miles until we finally got a cell signal in Eureka. We'd get 2-3 bars off and on and when we would get ahold of AAA our call would drop after 2-3 minutes going through several options without reaching a live person. One of the options was getting insurance quotes - on their emergency #!!!???? Go figure. After finally getting a live person and trying to convince her that there was NO ADRESS out in the middle of the desert among many other amusing questions like were we bystanders and what is our relationship to the man, she finally said a service truck would be out in an hour. Whew!!

Ronin insurance is great until you need it.

They all make great PR claims but you just don't know until you need them.

We have had AAA Platinum coverage for years ,never used it luckily.

So don't know what to expect.

Nice you were along the way to help. That stretch of hwy 50 ,"the loneliest road in the world"

does live up to it's name.

Beautiful though.

Thanks Ski- saw several FWC and ATCs on this trip. Although crowded out there for this time of the year, people were quiet and respectful!
