I have them but have not tried them out yet. I did hear that if you have tire pressure gauges in your wheels these could damage them. Has anyone heard that or have a problem with that. The F250 is the 1st vehicle I've had that has those gauges in the tire....

Thanks!

Are you referring to the TPMS system now in all vehicles? If so: No, airing down will not hurt them, it will just trigger the warning light on the dash.

I always ask the other person for their extraction gear or any other tools necessary for the job we need to do. I do not want to be digging around for mine and have to wrap it up and put it back. If, for any reason I do not like their gear, then I will dig out mine.

I assume you're referring to instances in which you are helping them, and not when they are helping you!

In any case, I'd always rather use my recovery gear, which I know intimately. You don't know how someone might have abused a kinetic strap or winch line that looks perfectly okay. I'd rather not take a chance on anything attached to my vehicle.

In the Blanc-Oh I now carry a good kinetic strap ( for use with friends & tricky recoveries) and an inexpensive kinetic strap (for use with everyone else). Given one of the tasks set for that truck I expect the inexpensive strap to get abused and to also be needed quickly. It now lives in an ammo can bolted to the spare carrier along with a couple of Brennan's soft shackles where it can be put into play immediately.

For too many years I have squatted next to a tire and pressed something small into my thumb while counting aloud and then taking a pressure reading. I finally decided to spend a the same amount as I would on a tank of gasoline and treated myself to a set of Coyote tire deflators.

I combined that with an accurate tire gauge that I can easily read.

And since we are also discussing recovery gear I also purchased new gear specifically designed for heavy duty trucks.

It includes:

  • 4” kinetic recovery strap
  • 4” winch extension strap
  • tree strap
  • snatch block
  • two 1” anchor shackles
  • tire deflator
  • gloves
  • premium recovery bag

It's got an ARB style deflator with a gauge in the kit. They're FAST, and you're not stuck with a single pressure.
