Longtime lurker. Recently purchased a 1997 FWC Hawk out of Nor-Cal. Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but have been giving it a good cleaning and trying to go through all it's systems.

The previous owner said everything worked. He was a very honest guy who owned it for ~12 years and had a lot of upgrades done at the FWC factory (composite lift panels, fantastic fan/vent, new roof screws and sealant, etc.). He only sold it because he was going to retire soon and ordered a new Hawk with all the bells and whistles.

Only issue I've ran into so far is with my furnace (Atwood 8516-III). It does nothing (fan doesn't turn on, igniter isn't clicking, etc.). What I do know and have done:

  • House battery is good and fully charged (used my battery tender overnight and checked voltage)
  • Tried to jumper the thermostat and got nothing
  • Pulled the red lead off the furnace (where it connects to the blue lead... see pic below), and accidentally grounded it out and blew the 15amp fuse (which i've since replaced), so I know it's getting power.

I've tried searching for answers on this forum (and all over the internet), but haven't found anything.

I ordered a new circuit board and thermostat (which I plan to install over the long weekend), and was thinking of ordering a "tune-up kit" from PDX RV Wholesale as ski3pin mentioned in one of his post, but wanted to solicit feedback before throwing too much money at it (I can still return both the replacement circuit board and thermostat).

Pics of the wire I grounded and it's first cleaning are attached.

I would check the fan motor first of all. If the fan isn't running the sail switch won't activate which will keep the gas valve from opening and the igniter from sparking. You might also try to jumper the thermostat terminals at the control board.
