Looking for a small portable propane heater for my Hawk. I don't want to go through the trouble/expense of mounting a permeant vented unit since we rarely would use it. Doesn't get super cold here in Texas but sometimes I find us out in the high 20s-low 30s. Don't need to heat the camper much but would like a unit that would keep the inside at 50-60 degrees. Curious to what others are using and the cons to what you have. Biggest problem for most units(besides condensation issues) that I've looked at is the specs for distancing for the cabinets and ceiling. i would like to set the unit on top of the stove top as its metal but that doesn't leave enough clearance to the vinyl ceiling material. Cant leave on the camper floor because of my dog or the distance to the side off the rollover couch. Any suggestions? Anyone used the Martin brand heaters?

We love ours. Mr Buddy is another option. There are many videos and articles explaining the pros and cons of each.

I use a buddy heater. If it is mild weather I use it with a single 1 pound bottle. if it is really cold and I run it over night I run a hose from the back cabinet door over the edge of the truck bed and to the turnbuckle door. I go into the camper through the turnbuckle door and attach to the heater. The gives lower ventilation and then I open the roof vent.   I turn the heater so it aims at the front of the camper but on the floor. Nothing gets hot that way and the camper will stay warm.  I have a 30 pound bottle mounted on the front of my ATV trailer that I hook up to the heater in super cold camping when I am parked for extended periods of time hunting or fishing. If I don't have the trailer I hook it to the 10 pound bottle in the cabinet.

My wife and I have also been using the Mr. Buddy for 20 years at least.   Have used it inside 2 different Grandbys, a '71 Airstream and, at times, in a large tent.  Am now on my 2nd unit, after the switch on the original started to malfunction.   It's been very effective.  Like Idahoron, I've also used it with a larger propane tank, located outside of the camper, when particularly cold.  I always allow for ventilation and never sleep with it on.  Several friends of mine also have them.
