This trip was fun, period. We returned to visit familiar sites and also discover new. We departed just as coronavirus numbers soared. We found, when we exited the National Park, that the decision came down to close the Park (except for day use only) during the time we were inside. Oops. We only made brief stops for gas while enroute and never were close enough to other people to even yell at. Our kind of trip. This will be our last trip for 2020. It was a great way to end.

The story is told in three parts and are posted to our blog -

Death Valley National Park - December 2020 - Part One

Death Valley National Park - December 2020 - Part Two

Death Valley National Park - December 2020 - Part Three

Please enjoy getting a little dusty with us! :)

Is your artifact a belt-fed automatic weapon disintegrating belt link?  Maybe a .30 caliber given the relatively small diameter (using The Lady's hands/fingers for scale).

Another great start to your trip story.

It's always amazing the amount of rock art the "native" people created.

The red art work in the cave with the "eyes",has that been painted on?

Thanks for the ride.

It is exactly that.  Someone has been playing with a M-60 or similar

Ski, it was due to your (and others) DV trip reports that convinced this Easterner to first go there a few years ago. We were completely fascinated with the area and realized that we had only scratched the surface.

We will be going back in a year or two so I thank you for reports ....

Bingo! Thanks guys. So this artifact probably dates back to military training during WWII and not back to around 1900. :)
