I would add to Stan's excellent list:

Largo Tank in Farmington, NM

Largo has built me two custom aluminum flatbeds exactly to my specs.  My last 8 1/2' flatbed with four RC under bed boxes and a rear shovel box was 6,500.00 installed! (With great design help thrown in for free.) I can't recommend them highly enough. If you call ask for Adam.

We are also the rough it type, and plenty of our camping is still out of backpack, or drybag.   I fell that our Fleet flatbed is about right for the two of us, but couldn't imagine having 5 organisms in there for a 3 day storm ;).   Just make sure you are going into this with your eyes wide open, as we agree it is a lot of money to spend, so you want to make sure it is the right option.

Anyway, there is a 'rent' tab on the FWC website:

I am pretty sure the lead time once you order is around 9-12 months, so spending sometime to try before you buy is probably worthwhile.

Thanks for the replies . Those are good considerations rando. My wife and I are the ruff it type. We have always slept in tents and on the ground. Lived in a small cabin in Alaska for 3 years, a small hut in humboldt county for a few years ...Now we have two kids and they will be raised in the same fashion. I here what rando is saying about space and he’s wise on his recommendation to rent one (is that possible?). But given our style I just don’t see us in anything else. I hate RVs and I don’t like the idea of pulling a trailer for obvious reasons. We live in a small house on a small lot and I think this camper will be very luxurious for us even as the groms get bigger.
