Glad to see a few trip reports coming in even before we get to spring here in a few days.  We took our first trip of the year a couple weeks ago, over to the coast range for a couple days.  Tested the new truck and waded a river.  Looking forward to the next trip soon!  Trip report is posted here:

Just a few pictures mainly.

thx for the report/pics. lotsa moss. the river was pretty clear, and it can be hard to find them with that kind of visibility.  riffly sections can produce, and if they have slots or drop offs, that can help .

a few people hit the john day this time of year. i avoided due to winter camping issues, but might be trying after i get my pop up.

Beautiful water that holds hope of a steelhead. That is pretty darn special. A very nice trip and congrats on the new Ranger. :)

Loved the photos of the beautiful scenery. Looks like you've got some southwestern posts I need to check out, as well.

Goinoregon, we actually decided earlier in the week we are headed to the John Day this weekend, for one just to get out, but another, to search a bit for steelhead. I can't believe I've never been on the river for steelhead, but usually we go for bass at other times of the year.

well, good luck with the john day exploration.  i have always thought the run at the 30 mile boat ramp, errr, gravel ramp seemed like good steelhead water. but its a ways down in there, and dont know the road condition right now

that said, i have heard  good things about the water around mcdonalds ferry down low.  i am sure there are some drifts around cottonwood.  keep an eye out for big horn!  a friend was recommended a telephoto to pop on the iphone.

let me/us know how it goes.

i have done the 30mile, and clarno , drift down many times in late spring, early summer
