We were surprised to learn on our last trip that dispersed camping is now allowed (in used sites) along Racetrack Road 2 miles from Ubehebe Crater to Teakettle Junction. No camping past Teakettle until Homestake. No way would I camp along that dust cloud but was surprised to see used campsites - unfortunately also with new illegal campfire rings. Break them down and carry out the ashes. Ubehebe Peak is well worth the effort. Have fun.

We were just in DV for 5 nights and saw signs at beginnings of many dirt roads indicating how far you need to go to disperse camp.  Many signs indicated 1.0 miles.   Last Friday night we came out of the Grapevine Mountains kinda late after dark and since I was tired we camped 1.2 miles up Racetrack Road.  We were along the south side of the graded road.  Heard one car at 3AM and popped out of bed to close all windows to keep out the dust.  Not much though since there was a south wind.  A couple more cars at 6-7AM and then we left.
