Hi all,

I just installed a Victron Orion tr smart DC-DC charger in my 2017 Fleet. Can anyone out there share the correct settings for the unit? I’m charging 2 100AH lithium batteries.

For most drop in lithiums the following settings will work and yield the longest life:

Absorption Voltage = 14.0v

Float Voltage = 13.4v

Fixed absorption time = 30min

 

Not sure on what other settings it has, as I don't have one.    Depending on what brand battery you have, you may want to take it up to 14.4v every now and then to get the balancing circuit to work, but you don't need to do that every cycle and it is not ideal for the battery to do that.

 

Folks who use these can probably chime in about any other settings.

I think they have a predefined setting for those batteries so that's where I'd start and then adjust as needed.

The default absorption time setting is a fixed two hours if you select the preset for lithium batteries. That may be longer than you really want. I would follow the battery manufacturer’s recommendation for voltage settings and absorption time and set the Orion accordingly. It’s easy to do via their Bluetooth interface with your phone.

I have had the Orion in this summer but have only gone on one trip. In all honesty I can't see it charging as the two BB LiFePo4 100 A  (200) don't seem to charge over 13.35 when the solar panel is covered traveling with the canoe over panel on roof. i have a "smart" alternator and can watch the charge going into the truck battery on my dash display and assume the DC to DC charger is dictated by this. (?) It varies  from 12.5 to 14.5.

I have the charger set to LiFePo4 but with user determined settings (see 2 screen shots) Please advise if you see settings that are wrong. 

 

Just an added thought ...shouldn't the start-up voltage be set to lower than 14V  to allow charging of the LiFePo4 battery which is lower?

PS took a ride today and the truck battery sensor was 14.5V  and charging indicated on app Victron... 

Just not sure .... is this healthy for the alternator?
