Opening day in the sierras is coming up and it looks like all the camp spots are full, any good locations near the river I can camp?

Look for BLM land that isn't restricted.

Look for BLM land that isn't restricted.
Because much of the land is LA Water and Power and dispersed camping is not allowed.

Well the camp grounds were not sold out but the weather was awful We had freezing cold hi speed wind and no luck...

Opening day fishing and camping has mostly been for nostalgia and friends/family. Years back I tried unsuccessfully to get our group to meet a week or two later. Fewer crowds and fishing usually better.

Our last Mammoth ski trip of the season is often on the opening day for fishing, although we’ve skied well into May and after during big years. I had to chuckle as we passed Crowley on that Sunday last. Dozens of boats out with, I’m sure, shivering diehards.
