Greetings, The concern of mounting solar panels directly to the roof was mentioned by someone that thought I was using a conventional rigid  camper and driving in extreme off road conditions.
 

But 4Wheel campers by design do not have a rigid roof, so to speak.  Plus I do not drive extreme off roads, dirt road yes, but not true off road.

If you do use a damping material you need to sandwich the panel so you have compliance on both compression and rebound.  Otherwise you will have a force spike on rebound when the panel hits against the head of the fastener.
