Another fine trip report. Really liked this sentence.

"Wyman Canyon is a rugged, hard place. We were exceedingly careful and paid attention for possible issues with the Lady's new right knee. On the other hand it was also a good test of her new mobility and pain free motion

Wishing Julie a quick recovery.

Bill

Bill, thanks for the nice comment. Especially when we were descending in the storm from the observatory to the trailhead, Julie kept exclaiming how different it was to not have any pain in the right knee. She's a happy girl and will be even happier in about three months. :)

Thanks for the delightful TR.   We have acquaintances whose children both attended Deep Springs.  As I recall the program terminates with an associates degree, but most students go on to graduate degrees.

You’re close to such a special place to explore.

Mr. Sage, we are glad you enjoyed coming along! Over the years I've head many great things about Deep Springs College. I was surprised to learn, though, that women were not admitted as students until 2013. About time. :)

Good to hear the knee is working well. I really liked the hands Never seen anything like that before.

Thanks Craig! We thought the "little red hands" were incredible also!  :)

Great Sunday morning read. Thanks!! I wonder if a person can sends photos of an illegal burn to the authorities. Can't believe peoples' attitude - guess there's just no fixin' stupid. Maybe a nice hefty fine?!

Best wishes to the Lady for a speedy recovery.

Ronin, Thanks for the kind comment! I'll add a bit more about the Daughters of Jabba here. The Hutt sisters were quite the pair. Throw in stupid and dangerous also. There were three other camp groups very close. They all heard my talk with Hutt number one, one reason I yelled so loud. Maybe it gave them the courage to confront the pair. They were camped right next to the idiots. We saw no evidence of a campfire in that area overnight.

We had a long time USFS friend - now moved on - an EMT, lead on a fire crew, and also Forest Protection Officer. He loved to patrol during fire restrictions with a one ton utility with a water tank, pump, and hose in back. He'd spot an illegal fire, stop, pull hose, and douse the fire and everything around it, before saying a word. After the "scene was safe" then he'd get on with talk and writing citations. I miss him so much.

When in a new area, I'd suggest asking the BLM or USFS folks who to call if you come upon an illegal fire (or activity) during fire restrictions and after hours. I call 911 as I consider it an emergency and I offer to meet with the responders at an arranged location. Especially when we witness firsthand the utter ignorance and staggering carelessness of these people having illegal fires.

love it... such amazing exploring, and all in your back yard...   Hope the recovery goes well and your peach trees survive the fires!

Vic, it is pretty amazing and we try to never lose track of that fact and how lucky we are. The places around us offer so many years ahead of explorations and fun for us - before it all burns down. Let's hope not. I sure wish Julie could be at home recovering and stuffing herself full of peaches. Because of late snows and hard freezes we only get peaches about every third year so we look forward to a good crop - peach pies, cobblers, fresh peach malts, peaches on cereal in the morning. But, all in all we are damn lucky to have great friends like the Teds (and so many other's kind offers to stay at their homes). Everything else can be replaced. We'll concentrate on the irreplaceable. Thanks Vic! :)

Thanks Ski for the story.

Bonfire Bonnie and friend (the Jabba the Hutt) sisters

sure sounded like an interesting pair.

There sure are a lot of people out there who can't follow rules

even when it means the high consequences that they could face.

Oh well that's humans.

Interesting comparison with the 2 "cowgirls". I bet if the CGs

came across the Hutt sisters they might have been a lot more forceful.

Anyway a great trip read.

And glad to hear Julie's knee went well and you both are safe.

Frank

Boy Frank, I never considered match up between the cowgirls and the Hutt sisters. I think the Hutt sisters would be a waste of their time, pretty inconsequential.

Thanks for the nice comment! :)

Wishing a speedy recovery with knee #2, Julie!

Lighthawk, that is very kind of you, thanks! Julie's on the mend and says thanks too. :)

Ski, I follow and enjoy every report of your (and the Mrs) adventure travels. Many/most of them are within my “Area of Operations”. I also wish to forward my “get healed quick” wishes to your Bionic Hiker. She has got to be hard to keep up with. I hope you can return home soon and eat some peaches. We just got evacuated a few hrs ago from the east base of Mt. Tallac in Tahoe (Spring Creek).
Fingers crossed!
Take care, Geologyjohn.
