OK...ran the Tundra the requisite 10mins for the test listed above to smooth 750rpm idle and the voltage at the battery was 14.06; of course, you never can turn off all "the lights etc. ".....soooooo, I assume the alternator is not a "smart" alternator....will go in change the default settings on the .... and see what happens..test was not really conclusive but seems to be close enough.

Yes, nothing is so simple that it can't be made complicated...heard another one yesterday:  "If isn't broken...break it! and create something new and better"....

2005 Tundra 130amp alternator NOT a Smart alternator..will see how the default settings on the Orion change for a Standard alternator.

Got this answer from E-Trailer:

"Variable voltage alternators, also known as smart alternators, did not start showing up in vehicles until 2010. Since you have a 2005 Toyota Tundra SR5 it is safe to say that you do not have a variable voltage alternator."

===========================Update:

Orion Default settings for "Regular Alternator"; previous "Smart Alternator" default settings in (   )

Start   14V  (same)

Delayed  13.80V  (13.30V)

Shutdown 13.50V (13.10V)
