Moderators please move if I placed this in the wrong section…

We usually keep a pretty close eye on the weather when traveling, particularly on our longer or more remote trips and have noticed that the 2 weather apps we are currently using have differed in their short term weather forecast which left us with some doubt about the situation…

So, we’ve decided to see if there is anything better out there. What is your favorite weather app and why?

I'm a Weather underground fan. It collects data from thousands of personal weather stations (like my own at the house) and combines them with NOAA to make predictions .... The interface is simple and large print. Daily, 10 Day, Calendar History data and most importantly I can find a station where I am going.... not one 100 miles away... important when there is a lot of local variation due to elevation. We  live 'above the snow-line" ... 2 miles from here it will rain while we get a foot of snow!

Here's a link of my station on WU     https://www.wundergr...kland/KMABUCKL2

Also a fan of weatherunderground, including our own weather station. On the road we usually use eWeatherHD, http://www.elecont.c...Android-58.aspx if there is a chance for phone connectivity to up date all the places of interest. I also like Rain Alarm OSM Pro https://play.google....&hl=en_US&gl=US which gives a past hour up to present animated precipitation map. Bought the pro version of both to avoid ads.

Also, with the terrible air quality due to fires, we have begun to rely on EPA's AirNow app, which shows air quality for as many places as you set it up to monitor.

If I have cell service, I use MyRadar app for the.big picture. It, also, shows wildfires & earthquakes. The latter two, I use Inciweb or Quakewatch for more details.

Without cell service, I use Garmin InReach to request location specific weather for a detailed three day three day report.

I'm with an old friend out in Winnemuca. A recent quote - "I just do it the old fashioned way - if I get wet, it’s raining. If I have white stuff on my head, it’s snowing. If my hat blows off, it’s windy. If I’m sweating, it’s hot. If I’m shivering, it’s cold. All I need to know."

Most of our time is away from cell service - oh how we love these places - and during the planning process weather info comes from the National Weather Service.

I've never been able to install an app on my old flip phone. It's in the console of the truck. Last time I looked at it - three months ago - the battery was still charged.

Our InReach device  - satellite communicator - has a weather info feature. We'll occasionally use that if we get curious.

I did forget to mention we have a GMRS radio in the truck and two hand-helds ........they all have NOAA weather bands (7) and broadcast continually.

We also use the InReach to pull in weather reports when offgrid.  With a smarty-pants  :P phone the Earthmate app has a weather tab with more detailed info than the InReach gives on it's display.   You can also pull down a weather report for any other location, which can be useful.

I used to like DarkSky until Apple bought it and made it unavailable for Android.  Overdrop is an Android app that uses DarkSky data.  I have more recently been using the Windy app.  When home I usually look at the NWS site daily and use their gridded forecast for any location we're headed to next.  And finally, when out for an extended period of time we use the forecast from Earthmate.   Some people watch sports, I'm addicted to watching the weather, although Ski's method above (flip phone) sounds appealing.

I use Weather Underground and search for weather stations when on a trip in areas I might be or travel to.

Years ago Ski posted NOAA page that you can move the map around and click on a spot you wanted to see a forecast.  I use that one often.

I do rely on the tried and tested Ski method look outside and see what is happening.
