Hey all,

I have a few questions/recommendations on maintenance on our Bobcat. We picked up our new bobcat ATC this May and have been loving it. We've had a few issues though and wanted to seek recommendations from you all.

First, we are from Portland, so we drive in the rain a lot. I've noticed some leaking from the front window during heavier rains. Have any of you had this problem? Any recommendations of sealant I could use around the window?

Second, on my most recent trip, I had issues with my furnace, stove, propane. When I first was setting up and turned the propane on, everything worked. When I left for the day, I turned the heat off. Then when I was getting ready to turn in for the night I turned the heat back on, on the thermostat and the furnace did not want to ignite even though I heard it clicking. I checked the stove, that too was not working properly. Throughout the next couple days, I trialed turned the propane off, disconnecting the hose, re-connecting it, slowly cracking it (I was told by a friend there is a chemical in new tanks that, when opened to quickly, may affect the release of propane). Sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't. I did notice that when ever I turned the heat off on the thermostat, the propane usually wouldn't work again. Any recommendations on fixing this problem?

Any and all recommendations are welcome! Thanks in advance,

NR

Camping World, BiMart and other places sell an adapter to allow hooking up a 1 lb propane bottle to your camper/BBQ grill. It is called a "steak saver". Search for "propane steak saver adapter" and you will find many hits.  Pick one of these up and a 1 lb propane bottle to use for testing.

Attach the adapter and a 1 lb bottle to your camper's hose/regulator and try using the furnace and cooktop again.  If they work fine, look at the quality of the propane in the big tank. If there are still problems, check out the regulator or appliances. Either way, you have reduced the number of places to look.

The steak saver may come in handy later if your big propane tank runs out of gas on a trip.

The reason for opening the big tank valve slowly is to avoid tripping the safety mechanism in the tank that reduces the flow rate in the event that a hose got cut or an appliance malfunctioned. After removing the regulator from the tank, leave it off for a minute or so to allow it to reset itself.

Others on this forum have advised me to also not open the tank's valve all of the way. So far that has worked in our driveway.....

Let’s start with the propane first.  Are you saying the problem (affecting furnace and stove) exists or returns by just turning the thermost/furnace off?  That leads me to think you might be low on propane, or possibly have a bad valve.  If it’s only after closing the tank valve, the new valves are known to shut off if it believes the propane flow is excessive.  It’s a feature, not a fault.  Closing the valve, letting it set for 10-15 minutes, then opening it slowly should take care of the issue.

Occasionally, a supplier will have a bad window or door frame that leaks, or possibly the butyl tape could be installed improperly (butt joint at the top of the frame or similar).  A camper less than a year old should not have that issue.  On this one, I’d call ATC and talk to Marty, he is proud of their campers, and wants them to be right for the customers.

I believe the excess flow device is in the hose end or regulator input and not in the tank valve.

I've read that plus I have a handheld weed burner that shoots massive flames out- it would trip the valve if it was in the tank I'm sure.   It's hose does not have the excess flow device in it due to the volume of propane needed for the huge flame.

Yes, the excess flow check valve is on the regulator side.  The overfill is on tank side.
