That's a sad story and I feel sorry for the aunt.

I don't think it would be exposure, thirst or exhaustion in November. And there are plenty of landmarks to orient with. Just a guess but it seems like a medical incident.

Yes, it is another heart breaker of a story. We also feel very sorry for the aunt. I suspect a medical issue also but it is odd she moved out into the flats to the north of the dunes.
