Julie and I spent four nights over on the east side of the Sierra Nevada to celebrate my birthday. We survived and had our full quota of usual fun. The story and photos are up on our blog and you may find it here -

We hope you enjoy a little scrambling. :)

I’m so happy Julie’s knees are healing as expected, and that she is now able to cautiously get back to the wandering that you both so love.  A Benton birthday stay sounds like the proper way to celebrate the beginning of your 70th year.

Thanks for letting us tag along!

Monte thanks for a great trip.

Very glad to hear Julie's "new" knees are working

well.Sounds like she is really way ahead of her comeback.

Nice to see the elk being spread out.We see them at Pt.Reyes

and also at San Luis dam. There is also a heard in a wildlife area outside

Los Banos. Very happy to see how well they have come back.

There is a huge heard on hwy 1 just north of San Simeon.

I don't know if it's just a farmers of another place where they are

raised to be transferred around.

Glad you had a wonderful birthday.

Keep up the annual tradition.

Wow, just wow.

Great trip report, and to be honest a great lesson in being grateful.

wonderful TR.  Julie is adventurous for a lady with two new knees!  Looks like fun.  I especially like the clouds in picture #3, and several of the Alabama Hills shots where the mountains it the background contrast with the rounded foreground rocks and the jumbled looking rocks in the middle of the pic.  Must be a story about those 3 (?) different kinds of rocks there.

Really cool sleuthing and findings of petroglyphs and requisite Bday soaking!

It's a shame that upper canyon is choked off with brush.  We've done both right and left exits.

Can't keep that Julie from climbing!
