Thanks for the trip report. Your truck must have almost as miles on it as you guys do on your knees!

I’m so happy Julie’s knees are healing as expected, and that she is now able to cautiously get back to the wandering that you both so love.  A Benton birthday stay sounds like the proper way to celebrate the beginning of your 70th year.

Thanks for letting us tag along!

Thanks Mr. Sage, you are very kind! Thanks for the reminder it is my 70th year now. :)

Monte thanks for a great trip.

Very glad to hear Julie's "new" knees are working

well.Sounds like she is really way ahead of her comeback.

Nice to see the elk being spread out.We see them at Pt.Reyes

and also at San Luis dam. There is also a heard in a wildlife area outside

Los Banos. Very happy to see how well they have come back.

There is a huge heard on hwy 1 just north of San Simeon.

I don't know if it's just a farmers of another place where they are

raised to be transferred around.

Glad you had a wonderful birthday.

Keep up the annual tradition.

Frank

Julie is working hard and will do great. Yes, it's the least we can do for the Tule Elk after almost wiping them off the face of the earth. Thanks for the nice comment, Frank!

Wow, just wow.

Great trip report, and to be honest a great lesson in being grateful.

w

Thanks Wango! :)

Very nice report, and it has me looking forward to our reservation in a few days...

Thanks Occidental and have a great time at Benton!

wonderful TR.  Julie is adventurous for a lady with two new knees!  Looks like fun.  I especially like the clouds in picture #3, and several of the Alabama Hills shots where the mountains it the background contrast with the rounded foreground rocks and the jumbled looking rocks in the middle of the pic.  Must be a story about those 3 (?) different kinds of rocks there.

Thanks Vic! The Sierra Wave - the flow of air from the west up and over the Sierra - create great cloud patterns. :)

A lovely recounting of a rewarding, exciting and satisfying jaunt!

Thanks Tony, that is very kind! :)

Thanks for giving me a nice happy story to read.

You are welcome and we're glad you enjoyed it! :)

Really cool sleuthing and findings of petroglyphs and requisite Bday soaking!

It's a shame that upper canyon is choked off with brush.  We've done both right and left exits.

Can't keep that Julie from climbing!

Thanks Lighthawk and enjoy your time at Benton! On our stay at Benton last spring we crawled through some of that brush. We don't need to do that again. :)

Thanks Missing Link! :)

Thanks! Yes, there's lots to do in the Owens Valley. :)

Thanks for the trip report. Your truck must have almost as miles on it as you guys do on your knees!

Thanks Craig! The truck has 220,000 miles on it but it has had surgery also. Rebuilt the front end, new axle bearings, shocks, u joints and such so I guess we are a team! :)

Julie got a new truck?  :D

Paul

You are funny Paul! Nope, no new truck for Julie but she got to spend a couple of quality hours under the truck with me upon our return home. We do leave a few tidbits out of the trip stories. :)

Need to know? :)

The CV joint on the front driveshaft - interface with the transfer case - started making a racket on our drive home. The front driveshaft went back in with a new cv joint and u joint. We would have stayed out another night but needed to get this fixed. Who knows when we might take off again? :)

Great trip report.  I live in Bishop and like reading reports about Owens Valley and Eastern Sierra.  There is so much to see and do I always learn something new from the exploration of others.
