Only learned about it today. I know quartzsite isn't a fan favorite here but much like heading up to to the Black Rock desert to see burning man I've thought about checking it out before. Now that I know there is an amateur radio related event there I'm even more motivated to check it out.

There are hams in the Portland area that go every year. I had planned to go last year but something interrupted. I forget what that was.  :P

Craig, the thing that turns some of us off about quartzite is the number of rigs boondocking around there. We are fortunate to have so much space that we consider another vehicle in sight as crowded. Near Quartzite you may have several hundred vehicles in that amount of space. However, go a few miles away, like to Kofa, and you can find peace and quiet and still be within a short drive of the Ham gathering. Not to mention that daytime temps are still close to 70. So go and enjoy.

I've seen pics of quartzite. Quite the zoo. Its one of those things I'd gawk at, not participate ;)  Kofa is on my list of places to visit anyway.

Hams aren’t there for pristine isolated boondocking.

It’s the information exchange, technology,  camaraderie, communication, bragging rights, and, maybe beer & food. :D

Or, at least, that’s what it seems to me.

Quartzite has its uses...I sometimes stop at one of the vendors for some stuff hard to find at home.
