hello all,  long time reader here but finally decided to join the club,

i really havent found what i was looking for in the search function or on the duck ....

im installing a Xantrex Freedom X 2k inverter (non charger)  inside my truck camper

the inverter has transfer switch for shore to battery only, im grasping the concept of this but im not quite  confident on how to wire this thing for my intended use.

currently have two BB 100amp hours wire all through with 2/0ga to a PD 4135K Converter (i already trashed the wfco 8735).   and victron mppt solar on top.

My main goal is to hopefully be able to use the same factory AC power GFCI outlets that are breakered throught the converter when on shore power     or do i have to run a complete additional set of hardwired AC GFCI plugs for offgrid use only?  (like on a traditional small inverter)  this is where i get lost... haha

Im not quite sure how this would be wired to the converter if thats the case?   loooking at the inverter it has the traditional +/- for battery connection and then AC connections for hardwire (not 3prongs)

If anyone could start a convo or point me in the direction of what i might be uneducated on that would be awesome

Hi,

You ask if you can use the Xantrex w/ your existing PD 4135K load center and existing outlets: You can, but it's tricky.  If you wire the Xantrex transfer switch between the incoming shore power and the load center, either the Xantrex inverter or shore power will power your existing plugs just like you want.  But, here's the problem -- the load center also powers a charger for your batteries.  You don't want the Xantrex powering a charger for the battery that's feeding the Xantrex!

The easiest solution would be just to disable the PD 4135K charger.  Personally I don't even use a shore power charger.  My solar or 12v-12v converter provide enough power to charge my battery.

Alternatively you could disable the charger whenever you're running the inverter, but that requires always throwing switches the right way.  A third, better solution would be to wire the charger so it's only fed by shore power.  I'm not sure the details of the load center but I bet there's a way to accomplish it (i.e. incoming shore power directly feeds the Xantrex's transfer switch and the PD 4135K charger -- but the shore power is not directly attached to the 120v distribution in the PD 4135K)

Be sure to do a good job of fusing. The xantrex and load center are connected to the battery with different sizes of wires and should be each individually fused (or circuit breaker).

I suggest you create a schematic that shows all the wires & fuses and breakers & bus bars.  If you can't get the schematic correct you can't get the wiring correct either!

Hope this helps.

it actually helps alot....    i think disabling the PD would prolly be the ticket, i think iv only used the shore power twice...   i have 400watts on the roof and it does a damn good job of keeping me ready to go.  DC DC is the next step (wiring is already run)

Iv also just pondered since i posted this of just wiring the xantrex in the old fashion way...   2/0ga..  fuse it, battery cut off and run seperate gfci AC outlets for the small appliances and laptop etc.  and  keep everything else just the way it is.

I have a total of 4 current AC outlets breakers through the PD and load center now...  two will never be used
