Today is the first day of meteorological summer...and it kinda feels like early summer in Bend. Not hot at all...more like "perfect" -- a high temperature of about 75°F right now. :)

I wish it never got warmer than 75° here...

Today, June 1, is also the official start of Atlantic Hurricane Season, which runs through November 30.

True, that doesn't have much relevance for wandering the West.
But for the past 3 winters I've wandered from the West to the Southeast, typically beginning mid-October, so I have been down there during the last few weeks of the hurricane season. In October of 2020 I had to set my route to the Southeast such that I was far enough north to avoid a hurricane/tropical storm moving up from the south while -- simultaneously -- far enough south to avoid an early blizzard moving down from the north. :o

...I-10 --> I-20 --> I-40...

SUMMER THUNDERSTORM!

When I left the house it was lightly sprinkling, but I decided I didn't need a raincoat because it's warm.

When I arrived at Sportsman's Warehouse it was thundering as I walked to the entrance. An employee outside on her break said, "We didn't ask for thunder, we want rain!!"  I agreed with her...

The thunder was audible from inside the store, too.  After browsing guns 'n ammo (and determining there was no shortage of either) I headed back to the front door.

After watching the downpour with staff and fellow customers for a bit I decided to run for it. I got very wet but didn't melt.

Yee haw!

 Hello Thunderstorms! :)

Baby plants in our garden will need to be protected if we get into hail.   I've set up garden hoops with EMT conduit and stainless cable which lets us deploy pup tents over most of our raised beds.   We use shade cloth as a tarp to protect against blazing sun or hail.

That is often a worry of mine even with my row covers.

Do you use the pipe bender from Johnny's Seed? More and more of my garden is covered every year but we have to transport conduit (10') on the roof of the Subaru since the All Terrain doesn't have a slider window and even two years later I have yet to be able to obtain all of the parts I need to get the rack I already have on the camper.
