SOLD

You've found the ultimate off-road adventure rig!

Details: Rig is located in Gardnerville, Nevada and the asking price is $139,000 OBO. I have clear titles for both the truck and camper. The truck is currently registered in South Dakota. Delivery anywhere in the U.S. can be negotiated.

Let me just get this part out of the way. This is NOT a Four Wheel Camper, Alaskan, or some other rig built with wood on an aluminum frame so it's not priced like one. This is an expedition-grade rig purpose built for long-term, heavy-duty off-road use. It will go where a Jeep Rubicon will go, but with a camper and creature comforts on its back so you don't have to rough it when you get to the ultimate camp spot at night. No camping and outdoor cooking in the rain like in a rooftop tent. No setting up a solar panel and wondering if your fridge will last the night if you charge your phone and laptop. Be cozy inside with a warm heater, a toilet, a hot shower and a comfy bed to crawl into during that big storm, then get up in the morning and cook yourself a hot breakfast on the diesel cooktop. This truck is powerful and comfortable whether it's off-roading or chewing up miles on the interstate to get you to your next destination.

We built this truck/camper combo specifically to travel the Pan American highway from Alaska to Argentina. We sought out a camper that would fit our needs for long-term travels in a level of comfort we desired. We chose the Gen-3 Dodge Ram as our truck platform due to its extremely dependable and proven Cummins 5.9L diesel engine, no emission control systems, known durability and creature comforts that came with the Laramie package. We found our one-owner fabled ‘unicorn’ truck with 4WD, dual rear wheels (later converted to singles), 6-speed manual and the top-of-the-line Laramie trim package in our own hometown of Portland Oregon. We’ve been traveling and living in our rig full-time for almost 4 years, visiting half of the U.S. states, four Canadian territories, and 30 of the 31 states in Mexico. Our PanAm plans were dashed by Covid-19 border closures in March of 2020, forcing us into a long-term stay in Oaxaca Mexico. When borders opened, we decided to return to the U.S. and explore more of our home country. Now we’re offering this ultimate rig for sale to a new owner that’s ready to use it for their own adventures and exploration.

2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Quad Cab 4WD 6-Speed Laramie Edition (former dually)

The original owner used it for only minimal towing of a flatbed trailer (no 5th wheel or even travel trailers). The engine has never been used with a “tuner” or souped up in any way. Early 2007 was the last year that diesel engines in the U.S. did not require Ultra-Low-Sulfur Diesel (ULSD), emissions controls, EGR, DPF, catalytic converters, or sometimes hard-to-locate DEF. It’s the perfect truck for those wanting to travel to areas with no ULSD such as Mexico, Latin America and South America.

The truck has been modified to be both reliable and be a very capable off-road rig that can go places ordinary pickups can’t go. Highlights include: a Titan 60-gallon fuel tank, an AirDog fuel/water separator and lift-pump, a Pacbrake exhaust brake, an XPCamper truck tray flatbed with numerous storage boxes, Icon Vehicle Dynamics 2” lift and 2.5” reservoir shocks, a Buckstop front bumper with Baja Designs lights & Warn winch, a custom-made rear bumper with tow hitch, a new Pioneer touch-panel stereo system with amp and speakers, a Clifford alarm system, front & rear ARB air locking axles, Dynatrac free-spin hubs, an ARB air compressor with tank, a Cobra CB radio, Garmin dashcam, an InReach/Garmin satellite messenger and an ARB fridge in a custom-made tie-down mount in the truck. Contact me for a detailed list of mods and items that will be included in the sale.

Factory Truck Features:
  • 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Quad Cab 4WD long bed Laramie trim package (former dual rear wheel)
  • 5.9L Cummins turbo diesel, 325 hp, 610 ft lbs. torque & a 6-speed manual transmission
  • Laramie package creature comforts including: cruise control, multi-zone heating and A/C, adj pedal height, pwr adjustable heated mirrors, pwr door locks & windows, security system with engine immobilizer, keyless entry, 6-way pwr heated leather seats, pwr steering, pwr steering with adjustable steering wheel, intermittent wipers
All needed service work has been performed, and detailed records are available. A manual for the camper including wiring diagrams is included, as are manuals in PDF format on a USB drive for all added items and systems on both the truck and camper. A clean CarFax report can be supplied upon request, all recalls performed, no accidents. We are non-smokers and have no pets. Current mileage is approximately 177,700 miles.

XPCamper V1 - Build #24 Completed May 2015

This XPCamper system offers a much lower center of gravity and smaller frontal area than almost any other manufactured camper. Once stopped for the night, setup is fast and easy, getting you out of the elements quickly. The single fuel system (diesel), solar power system, large battery capacity and water tanks make the setup perfect for long-term off-grid boondock-style camping.

A flatbed-mounted camper with a side-entry door makes for a unique interior layout. It has everything you need for long-term travel including a full-size queen bed, quality marine Webasto diesel appliances, and a comfortable rear dinette with a huge top-hung panorama window. It has a clever indoor sit-down toilet and shower cubicle that, when closed, transforms into an extra work or food-prep surface, adding to the feeling of open space. The high ceiling of the camper allows for a 6’+ tall person to fully stand up inside the camper, and unlike other pop-up campers you can sit fully upright on the bed, meaning no need to hunch over. With a camper made from a monocoque composite construction, there is none of the worrying about stapled or screwed wood frames falling apart with extended off-road use, or thermal transfer and condensation as found in aluminum framing. The single use of diesel fuel for the truck, cooktop and heater means there’s no need for propane storage or filling, and the inherent condensation from using a liquified gas indoors.

XPCamper production has been reborn as Nimbl Vehicles based in Colfax, CA. They are available as a resource for maintenance or repairs and upgrades.

Many modifications and updates have been done to the camper to make it reliable and make it look and function better than new. These include an updated Victron solar controller & monitor, new Lifeline AGM batteries, an additional 190w solar panel, a SOG toilet cassette vent system, an outdoor shower, roof vent covers, and a larger 8.7gal/33L diesel tank for the Webasto cooktop & heater. Also included are numerous spare items and even kitchen goodies such as a portable induction cooktop, an Instant Pot pressure cooker and a collapsible multi-fuel outdoor grill.

Sorry, we won’t break up the truck and camper, but you certainly could after you purchase it. Don't wait, contact us now so you can hit the road for spring and summer adventure trips! I have many more pictures available. Contact me for a link to them. Email: 365nomads @ gmail dot com

Mr. Nomad,

Marc Wassman was an active member of WTW and did a number of rallies while he was building the XP campers. Many of the WTW members from back then are quite familiar with the XP camper and several have owned them. It sounds like you traveled in yours the way it was designed to be used. Glad you got your enjoyment out of it and hope you find someone that will be able to take it out for more adventures. Good luck with your sale.

Good luck with your sale.

Thanks Ted. We certainly hope our rig does go to a good home where it will be used to its potential. This thing doesn't belong in State Parks, it needs to be roaming multiple countries as other Dodge/XP rigs have done.
