Howdy

I wonder if anyone who owns a factory FWC rear awning could post the details of the metal struts ?

Length , diameter , what type ends etc. ?

I have a new Awning but need to Fab some struts.

Many thanks

David,

I have a rear awning for my 2014 Hawk. The supports are for Bimini boat tops such as available at Overton's or West Marine.

the fitting  on the camper wall end is like this:

https://www.overtons...end-316911.html

Fits in hinge mounted on camper wall near roof like this.

https://www.wholesal...inge-34933.html

The other end fits in a grommet on the outside end of the strut along with an adjustable webbing strap that fits over the strut end.

https://www.westmari...e-19990837.html

The factory awning comes with heavy steel rods where aluminum rods would be fine.

The adjustable webbing strap fits over the end knob and anchors under the camper wing through a footman loop. There should be a slot attached to the roof over the door to slide the top edge of the awning with a rope sewn into the edge . A keder seam, if I remember correctly.

If you want to take some measurements and see where everything goes. , we can get together sometime.  I'm over the hill in Hillsboro.

Paul

ps. Of course, I'm over the hill no matter where I am at the time.  :P

Hi Paul

A Great many thanks to you...how long are those steel rods ?

I bought a complete and unused awning from a fellow a few years back but the rods had been lost.

You response was a great help.

Overall rod length is very close to 50 1/2".

When installed, the fabric at the drip edge hangs close to a catenary curve in order that the water runs off near the center of the edge.

The awning is over built IMHO & would be improved by being built with light weight aluminum rods and nylon tent fabric rather than camper tent fabric.

Hi Paul

I agree the awning is overbuilt....and it seems mostly to serve as a porch roof for the camper door.

Considering this springs weather , that is exactly what we need it for.

Thanks again for the dimensions and Wandering The West.

I'll  do that when the rains stop here in Hillsboro. To show it in use, the top must be raised and I don't know how long the atmospheric river will keep punishing us. I put the top away dry and would like to keep it that way for storage.  :)

David found this video of the rear awning on FWC site.

It shows a different mount on the camper wall than the one on my awning but still is s Bimini top part.
