Hello, I have a Hawk shell with a roll-over couch.

I purchased a Lagun table mount, I'd like to mount it on the passenger side of my camper, to the couch.

However, I need a large spacer to get the table arm to clear the edge of the couch cushions.

Lagun includes a spacer, but it's much smaller than what I'd need.

I think I honestly need a piece of wood from a 2x4 to use to get the spacing I need.

My only concern is that I might weaken or damage the wood from the couch. I'd probably drill holes for really long bolts to run all the way through the 2x4 piece, the Lagun mounting plate, and the couch. I'd then put big washers and nuts on the interior side of the couch to hold everything in place (as opposed to just mounting the Lagun bracket to the 2x4 piece, and then mounting the 2x4 piece to the couch piece).

Is that problematic? Should I mount on the driver side instead, where I wouldn't need to clear couch cushions, and I wouldn't need such a dramatic spacer? It's easier to access the interior side of the couch board than it is to access the same area on the driver side. Plus, I'd like to fix up some shelving for that area at some point, and I'd like to not have the Lagun leg in the way all the time.

The guys at FWC Bozeman recommended the passenger side.

Anyone have any insight or info? Thanks!

Mounted mine on the driver side. It works best that way I think. Most practical for sure. I can sit on the driver side bench next to the furnace and face someone sitting on the rollover couch as we have dinner on the lagun supported table. I also work on the table (laptop and files). I added a piece of plywood to the back side of the vertical part of the bench (where the lagun mount is placed) to distribute the force and no structural problems so far. When not in use, the mounts is out of the way, tight up against the ARB fridge which also sits on the front of the bench.

Nice, thank you.

So you added a piece of plywood on the back side of the couch - did you also have to add a spacer on the outside of the couch (like, between the couch and the lagun mounting bracket? I'm not sure what your couch cushions look like, but mine from the factory extend over the edge of the couch wood enough that I will need a very significant spacer. Thanks.

Ahhh oh, gotcha. I am tempted to put it on the driver's side, simply because I wouldn't need some huge spacer. I'm just a little leery of having to remove the Lagun vertical arm every time I would want to access my (hypothetical) storage drawers on the driver's side bench, or use a countertop I might build over there to hold a stove and sink. Maybe that's just the price of doin' business.

My 2¢, I think you could make it work on the passenger side.  I’d use good plywood, with two equal size pieces front and back to distribute the forces, then a smaller block of ply on the aisle side to give it the clearance you need.

I appreciate it, thank you. That gives me a confidence boost - I'll give it a go!
