My 7+ year old AGM batteries in the van finally need to be replaced. They have been trouble free up to now. Right now I am considering replacing them with 4 new AGM batteries. My new pop-up on the other hand has a lithium, which of course in great, but will require care and attention over the winter that the AGM never required. In the van's case, AGM are better for me at this time.

Battleborn batteries....if you want greater usable capacity and no worries about low SOC damaging life of battery; you get all the energy without damage...oh yes, LiFePO4 [BB] can be used in very cold temps for two reasons...the BMS will not allow damage by trying to charge below a certain temp and, as in our case, we use the internal heating element [again BB heated battery] that self-regulates the battery temp to stay above minimum temps and to shut off heater if temp gets too high....added bonus is longer life with Li battery...prorate the expense and you are ahead....but for us the deciding factor was the reliability and damn near fail-safe operational features.

I'm sure battleborn are good batteries but you can "make" (build) your own for a lot less.  Check out Will Prouse's webpage/videos on tons of info.  I can email you my build sheet too if you'd like but it's a few years old now but will give you an idea of the parts/costs.  I had to add a DC-to-DC charger which was the biggest cost of the build so you can't really add that in since you'd need that with any LifePO battery system.

I would attach the file here but the site won't let me attach a word doc.  Maybe if I convert it to a pdf ... darn, to large....

True, with the required skills you could build your own Li battery; but I do not have that skill set or the patience to pursue it.  Prouse was/is a big fan of BB....and our BB has a 10 year warranty...any electrical work I do has about a 10min warranty.. B)

Yes, we converted to all Victron, including a DC/DC charger...this with 330W of solar [2 Zamp panels].. [2016 Hawk]

So far trouble free and meeting all our needs...of course each person must evaluate the cost vs benefits in their own situation
