Extension plate for legs

So I want to put quality rock sliders on my truck. If a get the ones I like I'll need to extend my leg braces out further to get camper off. So how far can I safety extend the plate? Right now my tires barely get past front legs .thanks

My extension plates are about 4 inches hole to hole and they were supplied by Mule Outfitters. They are 3/16 thick steel. I suspect going to 6 inches would be Ok, but I’d suggest asking the camper manufacturer or an experienced dealer of your camper type. The weak point assuming you use adequate plates is going to be the attachment if the corner fittings to the camper frame and the camper frame itself. You do not want to bend any of that structure.
