Ever wonder what the survey basis is for every property in Oregon and Washington?

 

It is the Willamette Stone.

Thanks for posting that. Having grown up on "the other side" (in Virginia) I never new the details about my own properties' survey.

Here is Northern California and all of Nevada, our starting point for the Public Lands Survey System is Mount Diablo.

Wow, I grew up a half block from the Willamette baseline.

In my younger days, I used to ski the Willamette Meridian out past the west side of Mt Ashland.  Lots of untracked snow, often turned to hoare frost on top.  It sounded like small bells as you dropped through the glade.
