We are on track to convert the forum to new software. It has been many years since we've had a platform update, and it's finally time. To do this we'll need to close the forum. This is scheduled for May 27-28 beginning very early in the morning (subject to change if there are complications). The forum will be back online Thursday, May 30 (exact time unknown)

There will be some noticeable changes upon returning to open:
  • The Forum is moving to Xenforo software and all the usual controls will be available, but buttons and functions will be moved around a bit.
  • Your login will remain unchanged, but you will be able to log in with either email/password or display name / password
  • The forum colors and header image will be updated
  • Image storage and avatar size will be increased.
  • PM inbox storage will be increased
  • Responsive for mobile use: There is no mobile app needed. XenForo has a mobile view that is entirely responsive to device size. Use a browser to open the site and you'll have a good view. You can even set an app-like icon on your phone (really a bookmark)
  • New functions: many, but notably the ability to "like" a post and send an alert by posting @username to get someone's attention.
  • There is a new like function
  • Image handling will be improved. You can still upload images in the usual way but will also be able to simply paste directly into a post.
  • PMs will be labeled as "conversations"; (same function, new title) and images can be added to messages.
  • There will be an updated and improved table editor
  • New Albums to hold images in your profile if desired
  • New OP badge to denote the Original Poster (thread starter) of a thread - handy for long topics)
  • Best of all the site will be FAST.
  • Be patient after the site opens, it takes a little time to get settings dialed in, but we will bring the site back online as soon as possible (even while adjustments are still being made).

Oh no change is coming :) I'll be unhappy for a few days until I get used to it as usual. Sounds like some really nice and overdue improvements.

Now another TECH thing to get used to.
Oh well I guess this 81+ year old will work it out.
Thanks.
Frank
81 Frank? You are a bright young fellow and will sail right through this. :)

thx in advance ! i know this is a lot of work, and the changeover can be a chase after one thing or another.

I'm thrilled !! Well needed update and improvements. Look forward to new bells and whistles especially drag and drop photos ... I hope the image size allowed will be increased from 500 Kb!! But what really makes this forum a success are the moderators... they maintain decorum allowing for respectful exchange of ideas and enthusiasm for our travels in campers. WTW has the right formula!

It’s our last day on the old software platform, and although it wasn’t perfect, it helped us build a great little community. My sincere thanks to all involved with the development and support of the greatest site on the web, your efforts are appreciated.

I hope the conversion goes well for the adminisrative team, as they can sometimes be difficult. See you all in a few days.

Thanks again :)

I don't know. Physicists are debating if there is another side. Maybe infinite sides. Maybe I should stop watching NOVA :)

Had a bit of a problem until I reached out to Janet and found out we have to use our "handle"
name.
Interesting new layout. It will take a bit to get used to.
Hay the sun came up this morning so all is good.
We're on the other side now.
Frank
