Some of you may recall that I built my own cabinet with sink and faucet. I used the same 1.0gpm sureflo 12v pump that ATC/FWC uses, but after just 2 year my pump died. Electrical connection is fine, but the pump just stopped. One minute it worked, the next it wouldn't. I'm going to order a new one, but here is my question:

Is there a right way to mount or install it. As you can see from the attached pic, I've got it constantly filled with water because of where I placed it. Is that bad? I mean, am I rusting or doing something to the pump to make it fail like this? Any thoughts/suggestions? Thx.

Brett,

My pump like yours is always in water and has been working for 8 years or so. I installed my pump low so it always runs wet.

Hmmm. Makes me wonder maybe I just got a bad one?

Should be fine always being wet (assuming no freezing). Did you try taking it out and connecting the wires on the pump directly to the battery to definitely verify its dead? Is so stuff just happens sometimes I guess.

2003 Dodge 1500 quad cab 4x4 5.7L Hemi auto w/ ride rite air springs and 1999(2000?) Hawk

2007 Dodge 2500 quad cab 4x4 5.7L Hemi auto and slowly progressing build.

FYI: I've got a bunch of extra 14ga wire in red and black. Its a thick jacket 41strand wire (likely MTW wire) verse typical 19strand automotive wire. It has good flexibility but factor in the thick jacket. I'll ship out 100' coils for $18 (I can go 50' of ea for that too) if anyone is in need of wire.

We usually mount them upright, against the driver's side wall, under the kitchen cabinets.

I'm not sure if this is what they recommend, or just something that we do ?

But having the pump mounted against the wall will give you a little more storage space in the cabinet.

CampingWorld usually has little water pumps like that in stock (on the shelf) for $ 40 - $ 80. Not sure if you have a CampingWorld store in your area ?

We should have them in stock as well.

Not sure on our price, but Terry in our service dept. can help you out if need be.

Hope this helps.

As long as we are discussing water pumps I'll share my deal. I usually am cheap if I can get away with it. I bought a $24 pump, I think it was a JC whitney not that I really like them. Nothing fancy, need a switch, I used a little rocker switch installed through the cabinet on the front of the sink area. I still hand pump once in a while but I usually just hit the switch and regulated flow with the handle. Next mod will be a new faucet, what came on my 98 Grandby has a spout that is too short and usually I manage to spill onto the counter.
