Hey DD, an easier and more useful measurement request. What did the flatbed to top of cabover height come out to (ie required clearance under the cabover)?

I'll get your photos and measurements tomorrow. We've had an unusually heavy period of rain so I havent been farting with the new bed yet.

2007 Dodge 2500 quad cab 4x4 5.7L Hemi auto and slowly progressing build.

FYI: I've got a bunch of extra 14ga wire in red and black. Its a thick jacket 41strand wire (likely MTW wire) verse typical 19strand automotive wire. It has good flexibility but factor in the thick jacket. I'll ship out 100' coils for $18 (I can go 50' of ea for that too) if anyone is in need of wire.

Here's a photo of the lip. It's just under an inch tall. The cab guard has some leeway as to how tall it is when installed. I told the shop to put it as low as possible and its only about an inch higher than the cab.

The faltbed is about 39 inches off the ground and apparently the stock bed is 34.4-37.3 off the ground so I only gained about 4 inches.

Frame mount photos. 4 attachment points and it looks like the shop used some plate steel for spacers.

Cool, thanks.

I'm wondering what the intended installation is supposed to be like w/o the spacers because it appears they'd definitely be needed to take up height differences along the frame and make sure the main frame of the bed sits on those cross members. (Maybe its not required that the bed rests on the cross members and just the bolts take the load in shear?)

When you get a chance would you mind getting an approximate measurement from the bottom of one of the cross members to the top of the deck?

You might be able to do it for less than that.  I don't think the "Ute" brand is cheap.  The fold down sides are expensive too.  Another alternative would be steel.  They're typically cheaper, although a lot heavier.  I ended up building my own.  I probably spent at least as much as the OP, after dropping $2k+ on a welder for aluminum.

Looks great!!!

Regarding Super Duties...if you plan on going to a dedicated flatbed, it is generally better to order or buy a Super Duty Chassis Cab since the bed frame members are designed differently and lower compared to a dedicated pickup truck with bed.  The assumption by Ford is you are going to install a flatbed or working body (such as Reading) and this will allow the installed deck height to be the same or lower than a dedicated pickup with bed.  Ford's Upfitter's Manual has all the details.

Hey all, new here are reading up on topics of interest.

Could someone tell me if the spare tire is still mounted under the bed with the Ute flatbed. Also, how are the fuel / def fills rerouted and attached?

Thanks, J
