A good friend of mine had a skamper, he's the one that turned me on to FWC's because he wanted to get rid of his skamper and get an FWC. His main gripe was the weight and the aforementioned designed to fail roof lifting system. An 8ft skamper is probably 2k-2,500 lbs. They are quite a bit heavier than an FWC.
My friends skamper roof lift gave up the ghost by both failing to lift the roof then dislodging and punching holes up through the roof, it was a disaster. The guys at ATC looked at it and didn't even want to touch that mess and those guys can fix just about anything.
