I own a I4 Nissan Frontier with an ATC Bobcat shell. Up until now when I've gotten oil changes I go with whatever the oil change shop uses. What do you recommend for oil weight (5w30, 10w30, 20w50, etc.) when I carry the camper to help my engine? I live in a warm/hot climate. Thanks.

What does the owner manual say for the temps you drive in? How many miles on the truck? Does it use oil?

On my truck which has over 100,000 miles on it i use 30w in the summer and 10w30 in winter.

Oh boy! When you ask a bunch of dudes that drive trucks what kind of oil to use you are opening a HUGE can of worms.

I always run Mobil-1 synthetic 10w30 and change my oil at 6,000k mile intervals. I currently have 195,000 miles on my truck. I retired my last truck with 390,000 miles, still running. Where I live and drive I see temperatures in the teens in the winter and as much as 108 110 in the summer.

I don't think one brand is much better than another, but I am a believer in synthetics.

Boy an't that the truth......

I use Mobil-1 synthetic 15w50 normal engines , and Castrol GTX 20-50wt in the loose race engine. (not ready for synthetic yet)

I'm considering going to amsoil. They have a new synthetic as well as an oil filter that is supposedly good for 25,000 miles in normal duty and 15,000 in severe duty. They have it for everything from sport compacts to diesels.

On the other hand, my diesel mechanic reccomends synthetic with changes at 6,000 miles, any brand.
My buddy who is a driveline specialist and owns his own shop swears by castrol anything!

I use Chevron Delo for the diesel, 15w40
Castrol for my Chevy Tahoe and my little Honda Civic.

I've got Amzoils stuff in everything. F&R dif, trans, Transfer case, tires you name it I love this stuff.

My brother worked as chief engineer for a company and one of his responsibilities was the vehicle fleet. They ran strictly synthetic oil (a commercial brand of Mobil-1) in their engines and sent oil off for analysis. He said on the average they wound up changing oil annually, without regard to mileage. Dunno if the filters were changed often. This was in Vermont, where one pretty much needs syn oil for winter starting.

One of his trucks was not allowed out of the yard because the body was so rusted they were afraid it would fall apart on the road. It was a Datsun or Nissan with more that 400,000 miles!

My 98 Ranger truck's maintenance instructions say that if the differential was factory loaded with syn fluid, it never needs replacing.

Just my 2cents.
I think that your Owners manual will say to use 5W30.

As a Nissan Master Technician I use what the owners manual states.

Yes the owners manual says 5w30 or 10w30. I'll use what I've been using 5w30. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
