Does anyone have any experience or pictures of an Alaskan camper on a 6.5 ft bed?
I'm looking for something not much longer than 7 ft. I pull too many trailers to do the tailgate down trick on 8 ft camper.
Do they make that sized camper at Alaskan?

Worked fine on mine. I don't believe the factory makes a model that will fit in a short bed that will allow the tailgate to close. I could be wrong though.

With a small stinger extention the 8' model was fine towing as well.

Alaskan builds CUSTOM, so about any size you want, they will build. Interior layout the same (custom).
That being said, most purchasers have an eye on resale value down the road (pun), so they buy pretty standard sizes.

Edit for clarification

They will make 7.5 foot model possibly smaller. Mine is 8' on dodge Cummins 6' bed. When I orderd wanted as much camper as possible. I don't run the tailgate.

Reviving an old thread.  Anybody out there have the new shorter model (6.5-foot) on a half-ton pickup?  Looking for comments on how it rides.  I have a new aluminum F150 and am considering the short Alaskan.

Thanks,

Greg

Greg, I suspect that the Alakan is going to be roughly the same weight as a FWC Hawk with options.

Specs say 1483 pounds dry.

The Hawk is 985 pounds dry without options.

I did notice that the tailgate needs to come off with the Alaskan 6.5. With the 8' beds, you can leave the tailgate on with their 8' camper. A back porch, and added security for gear in the camper.

I've been corresponding with Bryan and he says he can make one that is short enough to fit inside the tailgate of a 6.5 foot bed.  The compromise is that the couch will be a bit shorter than 6 feet.  That works for us, since neither of us is 6 feet tall.  It would also allow us to lock the tailgate (new Fords have locking tailgates) when the camper is down, thus adding some security.

At 1480 pounds, once the water, gas, gear etc. is added, we'll be close to max payload on the F150 (2200 pounds).  For sure we would have to add some suspension enhancements, like airbags or extra springs.

Still thinking about all this.....

Feb 4-8 Pacific Northwest sportsmanship show in Portland. Bryan says he will have their new 6.5 for short bed trucks there.
