RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Teton Pass Road Landslide

Yes, a bicycle. It was a 6 day ride that I cut short a day to take that shortcut back over Teton Pass.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Teton Pass Road Landslide

I was a Park Ranger in the Tetons back in the '70s and used to ride Teton Pass from Moran Junction regularly. What a great ride. I never rode down the Idaho side because I new I would have to ride back up it again before returning to Moran. In the early '80's I did a ride, starting at Moran...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Truck and Camper Dropped Off Lift

Last Tuesday I took my 2008 Dodge Ram with my Grandy into the dealership to have the oil changed, tires rotated, and and emissions inspection. Instead of waiting for it, I went to lunch at a nearby restaurant. I get a call from the dealer who says they have some really bad news about my truck...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Water Pump 2017 Hawk

It took me a couple of days to get to it but today I discovered that my low point water valve was in fact in the wrong position, it was parallel the drain pipe. I turned it to be 90 degrees the pipe and opened the hot water faucet and was able to fill the water heater until I had a steady...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Escape Trailers for cold(er) weather camping?

We had a Casita for ten years and it worked fine, although we would have purchased a Escape if they had been available in '08 when we bought our Casita. The Escape is available with double windows and double batteries whereas the Casita was not. You can also get the Escape with duel axles...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Water Pump 2017 Hawk

Last week I did a quick trip to the desert to take advantage of a nice day. I hadn't yet filled my water tank in my 2017 Grandby, so I filled it about 3/4 full (I could have done less since it was just an overnight). I was in a hurry because I wanted to get going and it was a 100 mile drive...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rut roh, truck bed cracking at tie downs

What did the body shop do to strengthen you tiedowns? I am interested in this thread because I have a 2017 Grandby on a 2008 Dodge 2500 that I have had cracking around the tiedown points. My truck has made a dozen or more trips to Baja carrying first, my 1998 FWC Ranger II shell, and second...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mouse entry?

I camped in an FWC and never seen evidence inside for 20 of my 23 trips to Baja. I have however had them in my truck, and I've generally kept my hood open to discourage mice from chewing on my wiring which I've heard of happening to other Baja campers. I always carry mousetraps just in case.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Keeping Camper Centered

I have a riser I built that goes under my camper to give me more roof clerance. I built it with parallel 2 x 3's laying flat plus a couple of them on edge so that they stick up and act as a guide to sliding the camper in and keep it from moving sideways. The end 2 x 3's are cut so they fit...

I use this: https://www.wernerco.com/us/products/ladders/step-ladders/SSA00Series/SSA03 I carry it folded flat on the floor just inside the back door. It is not only handy for stepping into the camper but is also used for latching down the top or any other use I might have around camp. I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2019 Grandby Jack Bracket Removal

When we took delivery of our 2017 Grandby from the dealer in Salt Lake City, he would not let us drive out the door with the camper jacks attached. He said that sooner or later you will hit something with them and mess up the corner of your camper. This is not the first incident I've seen of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Replace Air Bags or Not?

I had airbags on my 1998 Dodge Dakota w/Ranger II shell. They were a PITA because they were always leaking. I replaced them with stiffer springs, but then the truck road like a 3/4 ton without the camper on. When I bought our 2008 Dodge 2500 I was going to put on a set of Firstone Air Bags...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Longer Cabover

My 1998 Ranger II shell had NS sleeping up top. It was too narrow for EW sleeping. That was why we chose the king bed option when we plurchased our 2016 Grandby.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How wet is southern UT-spring 2023?

I think this is something you need to check locally about. The roads can be dry within a few days after the last storm, but on the other hand, we have driven in on dry roads and had a thunderstorm suddenly roll over and had to drive back out in slippery clay. Tires make all the difference...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Generator Box on Back of Camper

I carry a 5 gal steel gas can on the back jack bracket. It is supported underneath by two 20" long 1" x 1" 3/16" U channel that are bolted under the overhang with large washers so they won't pull through the plywood. They are pretty solid and I've had no problems with this after 5 trips to...

When figuring the weight of boats on top you need to add in the weight of the Yakima, Tule, or whatever rack and accessories that are up there. That being said, we have carried two 60# sea kayaks on a 72" Yakima bar with kayak cradles as well the the 160w Zamp Solar Panel without any negative...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Does anyone put anything into the front wheel well area?

I made the spacer out of 2 x 3's that are laid flat under the edge of the camper plus a couple more that support the middle of the floor. Mine is a Grandby so the 2 x3's measure the length of the floor with cross pieces (2 x 3's that also lay flat that are the width of the camper). I spaced...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Advice needed - 8" gap between rear cab & camper

I use that space to store my aluminum sand ladders. They are wrapped in some outdoor carpet and jammed in there tight enough to make them hard enough to steal that theives wouldn't recognize them. The tiedowns on my '98 FourWheel Ranger II were bolts that were flathead bolts that went...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Trouble Lowering Roof

I didn't pay attention to what year your Fleet was. An '87 probably never had a board to push the front lift panel up, but, like my '98 Ranger II, had a 3/8" aluminum rod attached to the lift panel on both sides of the aluminum brace that stiffens the lift panel. If you look at some FWC videos...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Trouble Lowering Roof

Are you refering to the lift panels that scissor up and hold the top up, or are you refering to the 4' 1 x 4 (aproximate) piece of wood that is used to push the lift panels up and pull them inward to collapse the top down? Perhaps the hinge that attaches that board to the lift panels is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Driveway too steep to unload?

Do you put a wedge under your blocks to level it out? Otherwise the jacks will tend to walk downhill unless they are on something level. I don't think my driveway is quite that steep, but I have notice the jacks walking a little bit.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Noise While Sleeping

As a last resort I use the Plug and Drug strategy (earplugs and a Tylenol PM). Not suggesting you drug your kids, but it works for me. Generally I prefer camping away from other people but it can also be wind noise or something else. I like the FWC because it is like camping in a tent but...
